The casayohana project site is located at an altitude of approximately 2,900 meters above sea level in the Peruvian Andean city of Andahuaylas, about an eight-hour drive from Cusco and the famous Inca ruins of Machu Picchu.
The city has a population of around 60,000 and is located in the valley of the Río Chumbao. It is an important center in the Apurímac region. The province of Andahuaylas, which shares the city's name, is also one of the poorest provinces in Peru. The majority of its population belongs to the indigenous Quechua people.
Thanks to the generous financial support of our donors, two buildings have been constructed since 2018, which we have been operating since their opening in 2021. Among other things, the buildings serve as a women's shelter. In other words, as a facility that offers women and their children help, counseling, and temporary shelter in cases of domestic violence. In addition, treatment and therapy rooms as well as counseling and training rooms are available for our work with children.
But: We need more space!
The space currently available is already insufficient for our day-to-day project work. In order to secure the operation of our project, it is therefore extremely important that we expand our campus.
