Since May 01, there have been changes in Peru regarding the mask requirement. Previously, it was also mandatory to wear a mask in the open street and, of course, indoors. Under the new decree, wearing the mask is optional in regions where vaccination coverage is 80% in people 60 years and older with 3 doses and 80% in people 12 years and older with 2 doses.

In our district of Apurímac, the vaccination rate of 60+ year olds is 72.7% (3rd dose), and that of 12+ year olds is 87.1% (2nd dose). Officially, therefore, the mask requirement has not yet been lifted. Nevertheless, many people are already on the road without a mask, although the fines are quite high. Not wearing a mask costs 352 soles (about 90€), which is really a big sum for people here.
